چکیده

The paper “Monitoring and tracking the trans-Pacific transport of aerosols using multisatellite aerosol optical depth retrievals” by Naeger et al. describes a new merged AOD product, which integrates different existing and new Level 2 products from LEO and GEO satellite instruments. This merged AOD product is applied to monitor and track a trans-Pacific aerosol outbreak event from Asia to the US. The topic of the paper fits well with the aims and scopes of AMT. Nevertheless, I have found this paper far too technical. The scientific significance of the manuscript, in the present form, is not clear to me. The individual AOD products are merely put together on a common grid. The description of the methodology, both for the derivation of the new AOD observations from GEO instruments (GOES-15 and MTSAT-2) and how this is merged with the exist-

Monitoring and tracking the trans-Pacific transport of aerosols using multi-satellite aerosol optical depth composites

The primary goal of this study was to generate a near-real time (NRT) aerosol optical depth (AOD) product capable of providing a comprehensive understanding of the aerosol spatial distribution over the Pacific Ocean, in order to better monitor and track the trans-Pacific transport of aerosols. Therefore, we developed a NRT product that takes advantage of observations from both low-earth orbitin...

Trans-Pacific transport and evolution of aerosols: evaluation of quasi-global WRF-Chem simulation with multiple observations

A fully coupled meteorology-chemistry model (WRF-Chem, the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with chemistry) has been configured to conduct quasi-global simulation for 5 years (2010–2014) and evaluated with multiple observation data sets for the first time. The evaluation focuses on the simulation over the trans-Pacific transport region using various reanalysis and observational da...

Interactive comment on “Relationship between low-cloud presence and the amount of overlying aerosols” by C. E. Chung et al

This manuscript compares statistics of the CALIPSO derived aerosol optical depth (AOD) above low level clouds to that in cloud free scenes. Results are presented for both daytime and nighttime retrievals of AOD. The work illustrates that there are some differences in the AOD above low cloud and the AOD in clear skies in the daytime retrievals e.g. over the southeast Atlantic in SON. These are h...

ارائه روشی سریع برای حذف اثر هوآویزها از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای MODIS

Due to the effect of aerosols present in the atmosphere on the satellite images, the study of the effect of local aerosols distribution on the satellite images is important. On the other hand, the study shows that the effect of aerosols on the greenhouse gases and consequently on climate is also undeniable and as a result, this puts more emphasize on the necessity of this study. Lack of informa...
